I shall shortly be treking around Kathmandu for a few weeks. Could somebody please explain if it is possible for family and freinds etc., to keep tabs on us by using Google Earth ? What equipment would we need to carry....in fact, how on earth would be go about setting everything up ? thanks.

If you look at something like the Magellan eXplorist 100, ?69.95 from GlobalPositioningSystems, you could make a note of your position at certain points on route and then text the coordinates home so your family can plot them in Google Earth. If you choose this way make sure you have a supply of spare batteries.
